I found this referenced today and had to track down the original. I think this Twitter user originated it, but if I find out otherwise I’ll update this.
I said this before, but I try not to think of it as a TBR pile but more like a wine cellar. You try & time the right combination of mood, energy & interest, so that you pick a book when you have the best chance of getting along with it. That’s what the writer prefers too.

I love this sentiment so much, it’s such a wholesome and optimistic reframing. I think for myself I will still consider my unread books (there’s literally more than whole bookshelf worth of them, oh my god) a TBR pile, but perhaps not all of it or not all the time? We’ll see. In the meantime, I did want to keep this thought somewhere safe.
